The beginning of the Spring LAX season is almost upon us!

The beginning of the Spring LAX season is almost upon us! Below is some information regarding the equipment your player needs and where to get it.

First some general guidance… your kids are playing rec lacrosse and many are playing for the first time. Don’t buy high-end equipment… it’s not worth it or required for this level of competition. They can have the $250 lacrosse stick once they’ve made a D1 college team. Try on the equipment before you buy it (particularly the boys) and make sure it’s comfortable and allowing the player to move freely. For the boys, most equipment manufacturers provide sizing guidance based on the height of the player.

We’ve outlined the equipment needs by age group…

U7 Coed/U7 Girls

  • Mandatory Equipment
    • Stick – buy an inexpensive, but real, lacrosse stick – no fiddlestix, etc. Get girl’s stick for a girl and boy’s stick for a boy. They should cost between $30-$40.
    • Mouth guard – Mouth guards typically cost between $2-$10.
  • Optional Equipment
    • Goggles – Goggles are worn by the girls at U9 and above, and are work by all players in the U7 clinics. We use soft practice balls for the clinic, but a stick in the eye would still hurt!
    • Cleats – Sneakers are fine, but cleats are recommended since we play on grass. You do not need to buy lacrosse cleats. Soccer or football cleats are fine.
    • 2nd Stick and Balls – We’d love to see you playing catch with your player outside of practice so please consider getting a second stick for Mom & Dad and additional lacrosse balls.

Girls Teams – U9 and above

  • Mandatory Equipment
    • Stick – Sticks should cost between $30-$40.
    • Mouth guard – Mouth guards typically cost between $2-$10.
    • Goggles – Goggles are worn by all girls at U9 and above. Goggles should cost between $25-35.
    • Cleats – Cleats are highly recommended. You do not need to buy lacrosse cleats. Soccer or cleats are fine.
  • Optional Equipment
    • 2nd Stick and Balls – We’d love to see you playing catch with your player outside of practice so please consider getting a second stick and additional lacrosse balls.
    • Gloves – Although many players choose not to, girls are permitted to wear girl’s lacrosse gloves.

Boys Teams – U9 and above

  • Mandatory Equipment
    • Stick – At the younger ages buy an attack stick not a defender’s stick. Sticks should cost between $30-$40.
    • Mouth guard – Mouth guards typically cost between $2-$10.
    • Shoulder pads – Shoulder pads typically cost between $40-$75.
    • Gloves – Gloves typically cost between $40-$70.
    • Elbow Pads – Elbow pads typically cost between $20-$40.
    • Athletic Supporter / Cup – Not mandatory according to US Lacrosse, but mandatory for CMLAX.
    • Helmet – Helmets are between $110-$200.
    • Cleats – Cleats are highly recommended. You do not need to buy lacrosse cleats. Soccer or football cleats are fine.
  • Optional Equipment
    • 2nd Stick and Balls – We’d love to see you playing catch with your player outside of practice so please consider getting a second stick and additional lacrosse balls.
    • Rib Pads – Although many players choose not to, boys are permitted to wear rib pads.
